Esports veteran Niels Topp joins SkinScanner as Head of Growth following GamerPay closure

Counter-Strike 2 skin comparison platform SkinScanner.gg made moves this week when they snapped up esports industry veteran Niels Topp as its new Head of Growth. The executive made the announcement on LinkedIn earlier in the week, with his appointment coming not long after GamerPay, where Topp served as Marketing Lead, announced it was closing down.

SkinScanner operates as a price aggregator for CS2 skins across multiple third-party marketplaces, positioning itself as the “Skyscanner” of in-game assets. The platform helps players compare prices and locate the most cost-effective deals across dozens of skin trading sites.

Topp revealed his decision to remain within the Counter-Strike 2 ecosystem following discussions with SkinScanner CEO Joshua Sinclair. Having previously used the platform both as a customer and partner during his time at GamerPay, Topp described joining the company as a “no-brainer.”

Expanded role beyond traditional marketing

At SkinScanner, Topp’s responsibilities won’t be limited to mere conventional communications, content and marketing duties. Instead, a key focus of his role will be growing the company’s partnerships and customer base. He will also be tasked with looking after the SSG community, SkinScanner’s Discord server, which hosts nearly 20,000 Counter-Strike players and skin fans.

Topp also highlighted SkinScanner’s reporting data and return on investment for CS2 marketplaces in his announcement. Having worked on both sides of the industry, he noted the platform’s performance stands out compared to the market average.

The move is yet another sign of SkinScanner’s continued expansion as the CS2 skin trading market grows alongside the game’s popularity. The platform’s aggregation model addresses a common pain point for traders who previously needed to check multiple sites manually for optimal pricing.

Broadcasting and marketing background

Topp joins SkinScanner with extensive experience across gaming, esports, marketing, and broadcasting. During his time at GamerPay, he led the company’s marketing function with responsibility for organic social media, content strategy, paid referral partnerships and SEO.

Before GamerPay, Topp worked as a Marketing Consultant at Novicell for a year and a half, supporting large Go-To-Market projects covering cross-functional execution, content production, and strategy.

His impressive CV includes broadcasting experience, too, with Topp spending over five years at TV 2 Danmark, where he worked as a host and commentator on more than 500 broadcast days. He worked in the studio and on-location, with his role taking him to major cities like Katowice, Paris, Cologne, Odense and Copenhagen.

Industry positioning and growth potential

It’s clear that Topp’s appointment at SkinScanner shows their ambitions to capture a larger share of the CS2 skin trading market – a market which has grown significantly since the game’s launch. And while the platform competes in a space dominated by established marketplaces, it offers something a little different via its comparison and aggregation approach.

Topp would seem like a big coup for the company in more ways than one. He understands the marketing and partnership sides of the skin trading ecosystem, while his experience in broadcasting means he’ll be able to provide expert insight into the Counter-Strike community dynamics that drive skin demand.
The timing is also fitting, aligning as it does with continued growth in CS2‘s player base and the corresponding skin market activity. Topp’s appointment suggests the company is preparing for more aggressive expansion in 2026, with SkinScanner’s next phase of growth likely to focus on expanding marketplace partnerships and enhancing the platform’s data offerings for both consumers and business partners.
