ESPN’s ‘Out Indefinitely’ graphic for Sam Darnold is easily the NFL season’s best meme

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to miss extended time after being diagnosed with mononucleosis. As if that wasn’t already bad enough, ESPN didn’t do Darnold any favors with its injury-report graphic during Monday’s Browns-Jets broadcast.

The broadcast rolled out a graphic that had Darnold staring into the camera and nodding. Then, a few seconds later, there was the dramatic point at the viewers — all this with some bold “OUT INDEFINITELY MONONUCLEOSIS” text placed besides him.

The moment that graphic hit ESPN’s airwaves, NFL Twitter identified its latest meme. The graphic was so perfect that it could have been designed with the sole intention of becoming a meme.

Anyway, NFL Twitter did not disappoint with its efforts.

Thank you for this, internet.
