ESPN ranks Seahawks as No. 2 team in quarterback commitment

The Seattle Seahawks last month made Russell Wilson the highest-paid player in the NFL, locking the quarterback up through the 2023 season. Wilson signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension with $70 million in guarantees.

You’d think that would be enough to land Seattle on the top of ESPN’s NFL quarterback commitment list. Nope. After looking at how “married” each club is to its current QB, the Falcons and Matt Ryan got the nod at No. 1.

“It was between Wilson and Ryan for the top spot here, and Ryan got it because of the real-money guarantees, but there’s no realistic way a healthy Wilson is gone from Seattle anytime soon,” Dan Graziano writes.

Last year Atlanta inked Ryan to a five-year, $150 million deal that included $94.5 million guaranteed at signing. Wilson’s guarantees, though impressive, land him and the Seahawks in second place.

The Packers (Aaron Rodgers), Jaguars (Nick Foles) and Vikings (Kirk Cousins) round out the top five teams most committed to their quarterbacks, according to Graziano.
