Escape to the Chateau's Dick Strawbridge 'hurt' after date night with wife Angel

Dick Strawbridge's date night with wife Angel didn't exactly go to plan in the new series of Escape to the Chateau.

The adorable couple are back on our screens after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic and are busy preparing for wedding season at their palatial property.

Deciding they need an Atelier de Mariage wedding workshop, the pair are advised to go on a date night in one of the chateau's new guest rooms.

But Dick, 63, makes a 'painful' discovery upon closer inspection of its facilities.

Looking forlorn in the bathroom, the engineer said: "We tried everything when we were staying in the rooms.

"One thing that surprised me completely is this. The shower hurt me. It's like little needles.

"Maybe that is what people like, I'm going to fix it as I don't like it."

Unfortunately for the couple, their problems didn't end there.

As a storm brews outside, Dick says: "You can hear that pump upstairs."

"That is not kicking in. I can see straight away, this isn't isolated from the floor at all.

"That means when the pumps turn around it's vibrating straight into that piece of plywood, straight into the board.

"There's a joist which has been vibrating the ceiling below, and I'm going to fix that by isolating this."

Angel, 44, was shocked when Dick showed her the work that needed to be done, asking her husband: "Has it always been this bad? We have a month to go and it feels a bit tight for me."

But Dick replied: "Theoretically there is enough time."

The couple got married at the chateau in 2015 and since bursting onto our screen in the much-loved Channel 4 series have turned the property into a stunning wedding destination.

However, due to the programme's popularity coupled with the backlog from Covid, the Strawbridge's website advises bookings will reopen as soon as possible.

Dick, Angel and their kids Arthur and Dorothy have amassed a huge fan base as they lovingly restored the chateau in Northern France.

However, fans were heartbroken when the first episode of the new series aired on Sunday as the narrator announced it would be the final chapter of the family's journey.

In a statement, the Strawbridges said: "It’s our finale of the classic Escape to the Chateau, it’s been an adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold. The good, the bad and the ugly…we have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy when they’re older."

However, fans shouldn't be too upset as the family will be filming a new show in France.

They continued: "We are so grateful for all the love and support…and we promise to continue our adventures with you, just in a different way, as we venture outside the gates of the Chateau and explore the wonderful country we live in. Escape to the Chateau: Secret France (WT)...next year…we honestly cannot wait...Thank you Channel 4."
