KOCHI: Ernakulam rural police on Saturday arrested two people for allegedly stabbing a youth at Kalady in broad daylight.
The arrested have been identified as Jino Kariyakkaad (24) of Puthiyedam and Pushparaj Kizhakkepurath
(38) of Chovvara.
The incident happened around 11am on Thursday when the survivor, Kuzhiparambil Reji of Kaanjoor, was travelling on his bike.
The assailants who came on another bike knocked him down at Puthiyedam. The accused got down from their bike and attacked Reji. They thrashed him with an iron rod and stabbed him with a knife.
Police said Reji who sustained serious injuries was under treatment at Kottayam Medical College. The accused had nursed some personal grudge against Reji and this resulted in the attack, said police. Soon after the incident, Kalady police have registered a case and launched an investigation to track down the accused.
The accused, however, went into hiding. District police chief (Ernakulam rural) SP K Karthick then formed a special squad to track them down. The accused were traced from Mattur.
