Erik Lamela posts injury update as he bids to hand Tottenham a boost ahead of nightmare schedule

Erik Lamela is putting in the hard work at Hotspur Way as he bids to return from injury.

Absent for the recent fixtures against Ludogorets and West Brom due to a foot issue, the player will be pushing hard to ensure that he returns as soon as possible with some big games coming up for the Lilywhites.

Man City are first up at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the international break, with a Europa League tie against Ludogorets and a trip to Chelsea to come after that.

With a number of the squad currently away on international duty with their respective countries, Lamela is at the club's training base and working hard to return to action.

Jose Mourinho press conference following 1-0 win vs West Brom

Having uploaded a handful of photos to his Instagram account one week ago as he gave Spurs fans an update on his fitness, he once again did the same on Saturday afternoon.

"Step by step. Have a great weekend you all," he captioned his latest photo on his social media account.

One thing that was noticeable from his latest post was that the player didn't have on a protective boot as he did one week ago.

That's clearly a good sign for Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff and all will be hoping he can return very soon as he is such a key player for the team.

Speaking ahead of the Europa League game away at Ludogorets just over a week ago, Mourinho opened up on the player's fitness and explained as to why they had decided to give him a rest.

"Lamela has a little problem for a few weeks and after the last match we decided it's the moment to stop and have this week, plus the two weeks of international, for him to recover fully," he explained.

In his previous Instagram post, Lamela made a vow to fans as he revealed why he was absent from the Tottenham squad.

"I have a problem on my foot and I have to be out of the field for a short time to fix it," he posted on Instagram.

"I'm already working to get back in the best shape I can."

Following Tottenham's games against Man City and Chelsea in the Premier League, the Lilywhites have the likes of Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Leicester City and Wolves to come.
