Environmental activists stage demonstration at Trump golf course

Environmental activists have held a renewable energy demonstration at one of US President Donald Trump’s golf courses in Scotland.

Greenpeace said three people set up six small mock-up wind turbines on the fourth hole green at Trump Turnberry Golf Club in South Ayrshire at about 6.30am on Monday.

When golfers later approached, the activists removed the turbine replicas in order to not disrupt their round.

The activists said their demonstration came in response to the US president’s dislike for wind turbines and his support for oil and gas energy.

It comes after Mr Trump posted on his Truth Social page last week supporting more oil and gas extraction in the North Sea.

He wrote: “Aberdeen should be booming. Norway sells its North Sea Oil to the U.K. at double the price. They are making a fortune. U.K., which is better situated on the North Sea for purposes of energy than Norway, should, DRILL, BABY, DRILL!!!

“It is absolutely crazy that they don’t… AND, NO MORE WINDMILLS!”

Greenpeace says 65% of Scots do not support Mr Trump’s call for more oil and gas energy, instead supporting renewable energy.

Lily-Rose Ellis, Greenpeace climate campaigner, said: “Donald Trump wants to keep us as lifetime members of his Gulf Club, where every time he starts an illegal war, bills go through the roof while his fossil fuel backers make billions.

“But we don’t need to stay stuck in his sand trap – the renewables Trump hates are the best insurance policy against the chaos he’s unleashed.

“Wind and solar farms built since the start of the Ukraine war have saved us seven million pounds every day since Trump attacked Iran and drove gas prices back up again.

“More clean energy that doesn’t rely on the Strait of Hormuz or Russian pipelines can save us money, boost our security and tackle climate change. It’s a hole in one.”

Trump Turnberry has been approached for comment.
