Enniskillen cafe owner remembered as 'the most amazing person' ahead of charity events in her memory

The popular owner of a Co Fermanagh cafe who passed away due to cancer earlier this year is to be remembered with two coffee mornings and a walk at Cuilcagh.

Hazel Johnston of the Jolly Sandwich Bar on Darling Street in Enniskillen sadly passed away due to illness in February.

Hazel’s daughter Carina Cutler has taken over the running of the well-known cafe, which has been a staple of the Co Fermanagh town’s hospitality industry for years.

The cafe now plans to run the events to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer, which supported Hazel and her family throughout her illness.

Carina said her mum was the ‘most amazing person’ and it has been hard to take in her passing.

“As most of you know, we lost our beautiful Mum back in February from the dreaded C word,” Carina said.

“It has been a rollercoaster 6 months, our emotions have been everywhere. It’s so hard to take it all in.

“We never understood the impact that Cancer has to a family until it happened to our own little family.

“Mum was the most amazing person to so many different people. The stories that we have since heard of mum's kindness and generosity in her humble way is so heartwarming.

“Mum loved life, she was robbed of her life far, far too young. Every year we hold a Coffee Morning for MacMillan Cancer, little did we know how much we, as a family, would depend on MacMillan.

“MacMillan was such a supportive network for Mum and also for those around her. We reached out to them and cried our hearts to them when we were feeling worried, sad, and scared. The help and comfort their amazing staff gave us will never be forgotten.”

Two coffee mornings will take place at the Jolly Sandwich on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 December, with the Cuilcagh walk to take place on Sunday 25 September.
