England's 26-man World Cup 2022 squad is announced today, with Gareth Southgate facing some tough selection headaches.
Chelsea duo Reece James and Ben Chilwell both look likely to miss out after suffering nasty injuries in recent weeks, with the Three Lions particularly struggling in defence. Arsenal defender Ben White has been superb for the Gunners so far this season, with many posing the question as to why he hasn't been given more game time in the build-up to the tournament.
At the other end of the scale, Tottenham striker and England captain Harry Kane is probably Southgate's most automatic pick.

Given England are still heavily backed by the bookies to go deep into the World Cup's latter stages, many see South American sides such as Brazil and Argentina as the Three Lions' strongest competitors, with current holders France always a sticky wicket too throughout.

Jordan Pickford's wobble in form during the 21/22 campaign has quickly been amended, with Everton now in much better form following a strong summer window. The former Sunderland man looks more than likely to continue as England's no.1, with Southgate having done so at the last two major tournaments.

Defenders
It is no secret the troubles England are having at full-back, with Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Kyle Walker all struggling with their own setbacks as of late. Southgate is known to prefer a five-at-the-back formation, with perhaps out-of-favour Liverpool man Trent Alexander-Arnold now likely to be selected, despite his dip in form as of late. There are also huge questions over Harry Magure's selection, given his non-selection for Manchester United too most recently.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has seen a strong upturn in form this season under Erik ten Hag, whilst Ivan Toney or Callum Wilson seems to be another headache for the England boss.
