England's path to Euro 2020 final clear as Round of 16 fixtures confirmed

England finish top of Group D thanks to Raheem Sterling's first-half header which now sets up a mouth-watering clash with either Germany, Portugal, Hungary or France.

Four changes saw Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka enter the fray with Grealish putting the opening goal on a plate for Sterling after his chip towards the far post.

Friday's goalless draw dampened England fan's hope but their anticipation was reignited as they top Group D for just the third time in the European Championships.

Similar to the opening group match against Croatia, the Manchester City winger scored the only goal.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson almost had his first England goal on his 60th appearance for the Three Lions but saw it ruled out for offside after the touch of Jude Bellingham.

As England top the group, they now have the possibility of featuring one of the four from the Group of Death. As it stands, they will be playing Germany, but a win for Germany and a draw in the game between France and Portugal would see them face the reigning world champions, Didier Deschamps' side.

Luka Modric's stunning strike and a glancing header from Ivan Perisic was enough to seal Croatia's place in the knockout stage and leapfrog the Czech Republic into second, making them one of the best third-placed teams.

Confirmed Round of 16 fixtures

Italy coasted to the knockout stages winning all three group fixtures in Group A with Wales finishing as group runners-up.

Denmark capped a superb turnaround with a 4-1 win over Russia in their final group match to pip Finland to the post.

Belgium and Holland topped their respective groups but will await their fate in the next stage of the tournament.

Route to the final

If England can overcome Portugal, Germany, France or Hungary in the Round of 16, they will face the winner of Group E and the best third-placed nation from Group A, B, C or D.

A win would see them move into the semi-final to play either the winners of Quarter-Final three which is Holland and third best-placed from Group D, E or F or Denmark and Wales who play in the Round of 16.

And if England win their semi-final they will play the final at Wembley on July 11.
