Declan Rice: Provided some much needed physicality in midfield against stubborn opposition. 6
Kalvin Phillips: Broke the play up neatly but struggled to get on the ball enough. Kept things simply when required. 6
Bukayo Saka: Energetic and lively down the right wing. Great composure in the final third played crucial role in the equaliser. Unlucky to be subbed. 7
Mason Mount: His movement and link-up play was crucial to much of England's attacking work but eventually flagged through fatigue. 6
Raheem Sterling: Worked tirelessly off the ball to make space for his teammates. Responded superbly having missed a sitter before half-time. Played a key role in both goals. 8
Harry Kane: Intelligent with his hold-up play and won fouls in dangerous positions. Great passing to bring others into play despite limited service. Dreadful penalty, clinical rebound. 7
Substitutes
Jack Grealsh (for Saka '69): Did exactly what every fan expected with clever movement and won plenty of free-kicks. Adds something completely different to this side - even if his role was short lived. 7
Jordan Henderson (for Rice '95 AET): Added experience and energy at a crucial stage in the game. Exactly what England needed off the bench. 6
Phil Foden (for Mount '95 AET): Looked a constant threat whenever he got on the ball but lacking in his final third delivery. 6
Kieran Trippier (for Grealish '105 AET): Came on as part of the tactical reshape and performed well. Not his most notable performance, but one of his most memorable. 5
