England fast-bowler Jofra Archer set for surgery to manage injury long-term

Jofra Archer is set to undergo surgery on the injury which has already ruled him out of England’s ODI series against India and the start of the new Indian Premier League season.

The fast bowler played all five T20s - concluding India’s win in the series decider - but was subsequently sent home.

Archer returned to England this week for further examination and will now go under the knife on Monday.

An ECB statement read: “Jofra suffered a cut to his hand while cleaning at his home in January shortly before flying to India to prepare for the Test series. The injury was managed by the ECB’s medical team through the tour and it did not impact on his availability.

“Further investigation and a specialist opinion was sought upon his return to the UK and, in conjunction with the ECB medical panel, it has been decided that surgery is the best option to manage his injury in the longer term.”
