England claim emphatic T20 World Cup win over Bangladesh as Jason Roy stars in 50th game

England 's first-ever T20I game against Bangladesh ended with Eoin Morgan's side completing a comprehensive eight-wicket win thanks to a clinical bowling performance.

The win ensures England stay top of their T20 World Cup group and remain in the driving seat heading into their blockbuster clash with rivals Australia on Saturday.

Moeen Ali once again bowled brilliantly in the powerplay in partnership with Chris Woakes, as England left Bangladesh 27-3 at the end of the first six overs.

Moeen picked up two wickets in two balls in his second over, dismissing both openers Liton Das and Mohammad Naim.

Das was caught by Liam Livingstone on the boundary for nine, while Naim was caught at mid-on by Woakes for five.

Woakes then claimed the important wicket of star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, with Adil Rashid taking a brilliant diving catch at short fine leg.

The experienced duo of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah then set about rebuilding Bangladesh's innings, putting on a partnership of 37 runs.

However, just when the pair were looking to up the scoring rate, part-timer Liam Livingstone picked up a wicket in his first over at the tournament.

The leg-spinner got Rahim LBW on review for 29, with the 34-year-old failing to nail a reverse sweep.

Afif Hossain then found himself run out for just five soon after, following some miscommunication with Mahmudullah.

The Bangladesh skipper was unable to guide his side to anything near a competitive total, falling to Livingstone in the 15th over for 19 while attempting to find the boundary.

In total, Bangladesh managed just twelve boundaries from their 20 overs, reaching a total of just 124-9.

Tail-ender Nasum Ahmed injected some urgency into proceedings in the 19th over, smashing two sixes and a four off Rashid.

However, Tymal Mills closed out proceedings excellently, picking up two wickets off the final two balls to end with figures of 3-27.

In response, Jos Buttler and Jason Roy got England off to a flier, smashing 39 runs before Buttler was caught in the deep for 18.

England ultimately managed to bring up their 50 off the powerplay, with Roy racing to 23 off 16 balls.

The opener went on to reach his fifty with a thumping six down the ground and was eventually dismissed for 61 off 38 balls after taking England within just 13 runs of victory.

Dawid Malan (28 off 25 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (8 off 4 balls) saw England over the line, securing an eight-wicket victory.
