England awarded trophy at World Cup 2022 despite quarter-final exit

England have not left World Cup 2022 empty-handed after picking up the Fair Play Award.

The Three Lions crashed out at the quarter-final stage to eventual runners-up France, but have something to show for their efforts in Qatar after being shown just one yellow card across five games.

England were the recipients of the FIFA Fair Play Award (FIFA)

Harry Maguire's booking in the final minute of England's 2-1 defeat by France was the only yellow card the Three Lions received, and sees them awarded the best disciplinary record at the tournament.

Upon confirmation of the award, Roy Keane was not exactly ready to lavish England with praise. The footballer-turned-pundit said on ITV that the team are "too nice".

Gary Neville added: "We can't applaud teams for getting too many yellow cards but one does seem a little bit too nice."

Ian Wright didn't agree with the pair, adding: "We just didn't get booked. What's that got to do with us losing? We just didn't get booked, I think it's a good thing."
