Engineers say man's death in Bingham not linked to gas network

Engineers say a devastating incident in Bingham which killed an 88-year-old man was not linked to the gas network.

Emergency services were called to an address in East Grove on Friday, April 12, after reports of a gas explosion.

Residents described it as a 'tragedy'.

However, checks on Friday by gas supplier Cadent found its network was not linked to the incident.

"Cadent supported the emergency services at an incident in East Grove, Bingham, on Friday, in which a man sadly died," said a Cadent spokeswoman.

"Cadent engineers ensured the gas supply to the property was safe.

"Checks made by the engineers found that the incident was not connected to Cadent’s gas network (the gas pipes in the street and service pipes that run from the street to individual properties).

"Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the man who passed away.

"An investigation into the cause of the incident is being carried out by the fire service.”

Police said they weren't treating the death as suspicious.

Fire crews were called by police to reports of the incident and appliances from Bingham and Newark attended.

"Crews are working alongside partners to determine the cause of what happened," a fire service spokesman previously said.
