Consumption of energy was comparatively low in Telangana on Saturday (March 26) when the power transmission system recorded highest ever peak load of 13,742 megawatt. The energy consumed during the day was 248.44 million units.
According to the authorities of TS-Transco and the two Discoms, the variation in the peak load and power consumption was due to severe fluctuation in weather conditions, particularly the mercury level. Peak load on the system went up in the afternoon as the day temperature peaked and came down after cloudy weather towards evening brought down the mercury level.
Officials stated that the energy consumption on Saturday was second lowest on the days when the peak load crossed the 13,000 MW mark since 2020 when it first crossed the barrier. On February 26, the consumption was 249.29 MU and the peak load recorded was 13,037 MW.
The consumption of energy in the State was 250 MU or more on all the occasions (days) when the peak load was recorded beyond 13,000 MW so far. In 2020, the peak load on the system was beyond 13,000 MW on three days, all in February 2020 and the highest consumption for a day was on March 18, when the load on the system was below 13,000 MW.
Similarly in 2021, the peak load on the transmission system was recorded beyond 13,000 MW on 42 days during Janury-April period with highest ever energy consumption recorded was on April at 286.12 MU. This year, the peak load on the system has been recorded on 14 days in February and March and the energy consumption was over 250 MU on 12 days.
