State Rep. Robyn Gabel of Evanston has a knack for tailoring legislation to address concerns raised by people who live in her district, whether they’re Evanston doctors or retired senior citizens. After an older man shared his story of being conned out of money, Gabel passed a bill to help defrauded seniors and disabled people sue for damages after they’re swindled.
A doctor in her district made her aware that doctors’ medical licenses weren’t being automatically suspended after federal Medicare and Medicaid fraud convictions, so Gabel led the way on legislation to fix the law. Gabel also is working with local groups to address beach erosion on the North Shore. We endorse Gabel over Independent candidate Sean Matlis, also of Evanston.
