Emmerdale Woolpack Christmas Day explosion pictures as iconic pub goes up in flames

Christmas on the soaps is always a perilous time of the year with festive drama in the likes of Emmerdale, EastEnders and Coronation Street an expected tradition among viewers.

And it seems this year will be no different with explosive Emmerdale scenes set to be screened on Christmas Day.

New pictures have emerged showing The Woolpack exploding after a devastating fire rips through the iconic Dales pub.

Emmerdale viewers will be familiar with a recent storyline which has seen Michael Wildman's Al Chapman trying to get his hand on the pub so he can turn it into luxyr flats.

He is now a partner and has already made major changes, and in the run up to Christmas more dramatic scenes are expected to be played out before the inferno on December 25.

The pub is currently owned by Chas and Marlon Dingle and is a staple of the popular ITV soap.

Dramatic scenes will unfold on Emmerdale (ITV)

It's been on our screens for 49 years and has had 10 different proprietors in that time.

No stranger to destruction, the pub burned down in 1998 after a candle was left burning and five years prior to that it suffered damage in the iconic Emmerdale plane crash.

The Woolpack was at the centre of Tricia Dingle's death with the character dying after a lightning strike hit the pub's chimney causing it to collapse onto her.

In more recent years, it was the scene of a terrifying hostage as Cameron Murray held people at gunpoint inside the boozer.

You can see how The Woolpack explosion plays out on screen on Christmas Day with an hour-long special set to air on ITV One at 7pm in less than two weeks' time.
