Emmerdale stars you may not know are together in real life

Emmerdale families often sprawl far and wide, with new relatives turning up to the village every so often.

It can be hard for even the biggest of fans to keep up with who is related to who. And amid the drama some viewers may be surprised to realise many if the soap's stars actually live together off screen, Hull Live reports.

Some couples have had romantic scenes on screen, while others' characters could not be less suited.

From supposed bad boys and kind village vets, to on-screen couples, and many beautiful children between them, here are 12 Emmerdale co-stars who are very much loved up together off screen.

Jeff Hordley and Zoe Henry

Jeff, who plays fan favourite Cain Dingle, married Zoe back in 2003. Jeff joined the show in 2000, and Zoe - who plays Rhona Goskirk in the village soap - joined the cast a year later in September 2001. Despite being reunited, the pair didn't meet on the Emmerdale farm set, they met in drama school. They now reside in a Yorkshire Dales home with their family, The Mirror reports.

Jeff previously told Soaplife: "We met at drama school in 1994, I saw Zoe and realised she was the girl for me." Jeff and Zoe have two children together called Violet and Stan.

Jeff and Zoe got married at a low-key ceremony in 2003 after Hordley's romantic proposal. The couple's engagement story is a sweet one as Jeff proposed to Zoe on the same day she won an award.

She had won an award for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Manchester Evening News' Theatre Awards and Jeff popped the question on the same day.

Michelle Hardwick and Kate Brooks

Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa Woodfield, proposed to the show’s producer Kate Brooks with a romantic flash mob, and the couple married in Memphis, Tennessee.

In 2018, Michelle confirmed the romance on Twitter and they tied the knot a year later. Hardwick gave birth to their first son Edward Peter Brooks, who they nicknamed Teddy, last October. Last month, Michelle revealed the sex of baby number two.

She said: "So my number two is a little girl", before telling Loose Women presenters and viewers about her morning sickness. The couple also announced that the donor is the same biological father as other child, Teddy, who would be open to meeting the kids once they're 18 if they decide they want to.

Dominic Brunt and Joanne Mitchell

On Emmerdale, Paddy has been married four times: to Mandy Dingle in 1999, to Emily Dingle in 2002, to Rhona Goskirk in 2012 and to Chas Dingle in 2020. His latest marriage took place on Christmas Day after he organised a surprise wedding for him and Chas.

But things didn't exactly go smoothly, Paddy's forgetfulness saw him fail to send invitations out, while the entire thing was nearly halted when Chas declared that she hated Christmas weddings. However, Chas surprised Paddy at the church, with the pair going on to tie the knot.

But while Paddy may have multiple marriages under his belt, actor Dominic Brunt is worlds apart from his character. Dominic has been married to Joanne Mitchell since 2003. The pair met at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

The couple have a son named Danny together. Emmerdale fans will have recently seen Joanne crop up as Sandra Flaherty, Liv's mum.

Fiona Wade and Simon Cotton

Fans will know Fiona as Priya Sharma in the soap while Simon played Home Farm Estate client Hugh Bryant. After getting engaged, Fiona told Lorraine: "It was a sequence of clues, involving my best friends and my mother.

"He took me to this beautiful hotel in London, then he took me to my home where my dad passed away. It was candles and flowers and then the next day we went to Paris."

The pair got engaged in 2018, and although they no longer work together on Emmerdale is was the launch of their careers and their romance together.

Sometimes life imitates art.

Chris Chittell and Lesley Dunlop , who play Eric Pollard and Brenda Walker, are married in real life as well as being together on-screen. They have shared many scenes together, including kissing scenes in lockdown which had confused fans at first.

But it was all within the rules, as they first became a couple back in 2008 and then got hitched eight years later in June 2016. Lesley has two sons from a previous relationship.

Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden

Probably the most well-known of the real life Emmerdale couples, Charley and Matthew married in 2018 after a nine-year relationship. Charley plays Debbie Dingle, while Matthew plays David Metcalfe.

The co-stars have three children together called Buster, Bowie and Ace. The family-of-five are often seen in snaps on country walks, playing board games and other family activities in Instagram posts.

The family lives in a stunning home in North Yorkshire, close to the Emmerdale set. It is beautifully designed but also full of personal touches, and has a huge garden with a trampoline and goalposts.
