Emmerdale confirmed Pierce Harris' fate on the ITV soap on Friday night, weeks on from his reign of terror in the village.
In January he was confirmed as the killer of Graham Foster, murdering his supposed love rival in a brutal final showdown.
But things took a darker turn when he went on to kidnap former enemy Vanessa Woodfield and her young son Johnny.
He kept them hostage in an empty house for weeks, while planning to win back ex-wife Rhona Goskirk.
Pierce was charged and sent to prison in 2017 for raping his wife, before being released just months ago.

Rhona didn't know this, and Pierce had already killed her partner Graham before he could tell her.
Instead, Pierce asked her to meet him in order to save Vanessa and plotted for them to run away together.
Luckily, Rhona managed to raise the alarm and the police arrived, freeing Vanessa and Rhona.

While Pierce was arrested, he hasn't been heard from since.
But Friday night finally brought Rhona some closure, and the news she'd been waiting for.
Pierce's court hearing was being held, with him facing charges for kidnap, false imprisonment and murder.

Rhona feared he would change his plea to not guilty and a trial would have to go ahead, not wanting to face him again.
But as the episode went on, Rhona got a phone call confirming Pierce's sentence had been revealed.
She told Marlon Dingle that Pierce had been given a life sentence and wouldn't get out - her turmoil was "over".
Viewers were pleased for Rhona and happy with the news, with many still gutted over Graham's death.
Emmerdale airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
