Emmerdale's Faith reveals terminal cancer diagnosis after Cain's cruel jibe

Emmerdale aired scenes of devastation on Thursday night, as Faith Dingle dropped a bombshell on her family.

After weeks of keeping her secret from them, she told her children Cain and Chas that her cancer had returned, and that it was terminal.

Faith had learned she had secondary breast cancer in May, and she confided in Moira, Cain's wife, but refused to tell anyone else.

Nurse Wendy Posner soon learned the truth, and this week she was encouraged to tell her family what was going on.

But her plan to break the news gently didn't get off to the best of starts, as she tried to celebrate her birthday with them.

Amid her rocky relationship with son Cain, he was furious to be tricked into attending the party and was soon kicking off.

Stopping her spending time with her grandsons, he then began insulting her and claimed he was going to give her a birthday "to remember".

With Faith keen to have a nice birthday gathering, not knowing how long she had left to live, she was devastated as Cain continued to mock her before he repeatedly told her how he wished she was dead.

Faith eventually snapped and dropped the news of her illness, which left her family reeling.

Unable to take Cain's spiteful taunts any longer, she revealed the truth and Cain was visibly stunned, as was Chas.

Cain had said: "It will be time to blow out the candles soon. I bet you can't guess what I'd wish for."

Faith told him: "Well you might be getting your wish a lot sooner than you think," to which he replied: "Great, arrive in a hearse, leave in a hearse."

She hit back: "You have no idea what I have been through," but he again mocked her and claimed she was throwing a "pity party".

Faith went on: "I wouldn't expect any pity from you, not even on my death bed."

But as Cain made one more dig and said: "Give me a date, I'll stick it in the diary," she was forced to reveal: "I haven't got a date but the cancer is back and it's terminal."

As the episode came to an end, Cain was open-mouthed by the confession, with Chas also shown reeling - but how will they react to the fact her and Moira have kept the news hidden?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
