Emmerdale’s Dominic Brunt defends on-screen wife Chas Dingle following affair storyline backlash

Emmerdale's Dominic Brunt has spoken out and defended his on-screen wife Lucy Pargeter following the backlash she has received due to their ongoing affair storyline.

Paddy Kirk and Chas Dingle have been in a long term relationship, however all eyes are now on the couple as Paddy recently found out about his wife’s secret affair. Chas began having an affair with Al Chapman earlier this year and Al’s fiancée Kerry and Chas’s husband Paddy had no clue it was going on.

The pair ended up falling in love but Al was killed before the pair could embark on their new life together. Chas thought the affair would remain secret forever and decided to put it all behind her and move forward with her husband.

However in last week’s episode Belle Dingle - who knew about the affair months ago but promised to keep quiet after Chas lied to her it was all over - decided time was up and told Paddy the truth. In the heart-breaking scene Paddy confronted Chas and revealed that he knew about the affair and her plans to take their daughter Eve with her.

Emmerdale viewers have now turned on Chas however Paddy actor Dominic has taken to Twitter to thank fans for getting so emotionally involved in the episodes. The star defended his co-star and assured fans that Lucy couldn't be more different from her onscreen character.

In a heart-breaking scene Paddy confronted Chas about her affair (ITV)

Taking to Twitter, he said "I mean.. Thank you very muchly. Sincerely, Glad you’re enjoying the episodes. They were immense fun to film.

"Just a quick note to say @lucyparge is playing a part, and is one of my best mates, and is one of the best actors I have EVER had the good fortune to work with. There."

Lucy took to the comments and he said: "Oh Dom ...The feeling is mutual."
