Emmerdale’s iconic pub The Woolpack could be under threat of closure because of the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on the boozer’s finances.
The pub is the focal point of the village and the soap just wouldn’t be the same without the Woolpack. Soap folklore states the venue was first built in around 1776 and is currently owned by relatives Chas and Marlon Dingle.

In upcoming scenes, Emmerdale viewers will see Chas and Marlon take a long hard look at the Woolpack’s books and face up to some tough decisions. The legendary pub was forced to shut during the coronavirus lockdown period.
Looking at the books, the owners come to the conclusion they need to let bartender Matty Barton go.
“Matty has been working at the Woolpack since he returned to the village,” a soap insider said.
“He’s really become part of the furniture, and it is a very tough decision for Chas and Marlon to make. But Matty won’t be receiving his P45 just yet - as Marlon has to find the backbone to let him go.”
Hopefully, as the world gets back to some normality the Woolpack will be able to survive. We’ll bring you the latest news on its future when we get it.
