Emmerdale misses out at BAFTA awards 2021

Emmerdale has been snubbed from this year's nominations for tonight's TV BAFTAs, despite winning the award for best soap in 2020.

The Soaps and Continuing Drama category saw fellow ITV soap Coronation Street, plus Casualty, EastEnders and Hollyoaks all shortlisted, with Emmerdale surprisingly shut out.

BBC's EastEnders has received a BAFTA TV Awards nomination once again after being snubbed last year - and the moment of Chantelle Atkin's murder has been nominated for a Must See Moment award.

Ever since the the Best Soap and Continuing Drama category was introduced in 1999, the Walford-based soap has won it nine times, more than any other show.

As well as its 2020 win, Emmerdale previously won the award in 2017 and 2001, scoring the third-most wins behind EastEnders (nine) and Corrie (six).

This year's BAFTA nominations include multiple I May Destroy You, Normal People and Sex Education, as well as recognition for The Crown and Small Axe.

The BBC has received a total of 104 nominations, while Netflix had 25 and Apple TV+ bagged its first BAFTA TV nominations.
