Beth Cordingly lit up the This Morning sofa recently, chatting all things Emmerdale ahead of the much-anticipated Joe Tate Home Farm whodunnit storyline. But it wasn’t just her on-screen drama that had people talking – it was a surprising real-life connection that left fans doing a double-take.
As the 48-year-old actress discussed her role as Ruby in the ITV soap, talk turned to her partner, actor Ian Kelsey – and viewers were stunned. Ian famously played Dave Glover in Emmerdale back in the mid-’90s, and later appeared in Coronation Street as Vinny Ashford. But many had no idea the two were a couple in real life, reported Belfast Live.
Host Ben Shephard, who amusingly revealed he went to university with Beth, pointed out Ian’s Emmerdale past, asking what it’s been like having someone so familiar with the soap world by her side.
Beth was all smiles as she responded: “Yeah, it’s brilliant! There’s also people in props, like Neil, who was working on the show when Ian was in the show, because Ian said before I started on the job: ‘If it’s anything like it was when I worked there, you’ll never work anywhere like it, the people are golden.’”
She went on to gush about how much she loves being on set, adding: “It has the most gorgeous atmosphere and there isn’t a divide between the cast and crew like there can be on some shows. You really feel like a team when you’re working on something. Everybody really cares. It’s just the most gorgeous place to work, I absolutely love it.”
The show even cheekily pulled up an old photo of Ian in character, prompting Beth to grin: “He’s absolutely gorgeous, I’m a very lucky woman!”
Social media quickly lit up with fans stunned by the connection. One person tweeted: “I didn’t know Beth Cordingly who plays her is the partner of Ian Kelsey who played Dave Glover in the show.” Another said: “Let me tell you how shocked I was when I read that Beth is dating Ian Kelsey.”
Beth, who joined Emmerdale as Ruby in 2024, has been making serious waves on the soap. She’s already landed two nominations at the upcoming British Soap Awards – Best Leading Performer and Best On-Screen Partnership with Will Ash, who plays her on-screen husband Caleb Miligan.
