As Emmerdale fans know, stars Matthew and Isabel Hodgins have been written out of the soap following an issue filming dramatic scenes for the programme’s Super Soap Week.

In the show, viewers discovered the pair had jetted off to Portugal to see Diane Sugden.

This week, the absence of shopkeeper David was briefly acknowledged as The Sun reports.

Dawn Taylor asked if Jacob had any more wine on offer in store.

He told her: “Call back tomorrow, dad (David) will have called in with another offer by then.”

“I need to get someone else in,” he told her, hinting that David won’t be back for a while yet.

Elsewhere, Matthew’s real-life partner Charley Webb, who plays Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale, looks no nearer to returning.

Debbie last appeared in Emmerdale at the start of the year and earlier this week it was confirmed she won’t be popping up in the village this Christmas - as confirmed by relative Chas Dingle.

“Debbie’s not coming home for Christmas,” she told Paddy.

“We could go to her? I know Bear’s keen on visiting Scotland?”
