Emmerdale airs dramatic exit as character leaves for good after deadly twist

Emmerdale fans saw one character leave the soap on Thursday night, a year on from him joining the show.

Villain Callum bowed out in dramatic scenes, during an armed stand-off with police after trying to kill Leyla Harding.

Callum kidnapped Leyla at the start of this week, a day after attacking her pal Suzy with a brick and leaving her for dead.

The girls had exposed his drug dealing crimes to the police recently, after he accidentally stabbed Leyla's son Jacob earlier this year.

Jacob barely survived but given he possessed the knife, Leyla realised they could not go to the police.

Instead she filmed him dealing in a club and had him arrested, and Suzy shared claims about him being a grass to his criminal pals.

In the fallout he attacked Suzy and kidnapped Leyla, before attacking her and holding her hostage - seemingly planning on killing her.

As he threatened her and dragged her through the woods to a disused outer building, Suzy managed to find out his location and set off to save Leyla with Jacob.

The police were called too, and soon enough armed officers came knocking - but not before Callum held Suzy and Jacob hostage too.

Pulling out a gun from his pocket, he began waving it at the three of them vowing to get them out of the way.

As he prepared to shoot Jacob, Leyla pleaded with him to kill her instead while Suzy also screamed at him to let them live.

It's then that the police made contact urging him to leave the cabin building, and put his weapon down.

Armed police surrounded the building with their guns pointed at the entrance, and as Callum emerged he had several red dot targets on him.

Realising there was no way out, he watched on scared as he was told to lower his weapon and assist the police.

Eventually he did this and he was arrested, as Jacob, Suzy and Leyla stepped out terrified.

As Callum was led away by the police, finally caught, they told him he was being arrested for offences of kidnap, forced imprisonment and the possession of a firearm.

The trio watching on let out a sigh of relief, lucky to be alive, as Jacob held his mum and told her it was finally over.

Leyla's fate was finally revealed in the episode amid fears she would be killed off, with no current plans for her or Suzy to leave the village - while it is believed Callum has now left.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
