Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley on devastating Emmerdale suicide storyline for depressed Paddy Dingle

Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley has opened up about the devastating suicide plotline for co-star Dominic Brunt that will be tackled in upcoming episodes.

Ever since Paddy Kirk found out about his wife's affair, he has been struggling with his mental health. Viewers previously predicted that their failed marriage could see Paddy reunite with ex wife Mandy Dingle who had also cheated on him while they were married.

During last night's episode, the two in fact reconnect after Mandy admitted that she still "fancies the pants" off Paddy. They end up kissing but whether they will get back together, remains to be seen.

Actress Lisa Riley, who plays Mandy, said her character would be there to support Paddy through his lows, saying Paddy was not "in a great place". ITV bosses have revealed that Paddy will consider taking his own life in upcoming episodes.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly this morning, February 9, Lisa said: "Since he found out about Chas and Al having the affair it's been layers and layers and there is a child involved, they love Eve together as Chas and Paddy. It's that kind of 'where shall we live?' and all these layers are just kind of suffocating him.

“We are tackling depression to the fullest form and Emmerdale does that well. We saw it last year, with Marlon doing the stroke storyline and the Alzheimer's storyline we did, we do these stories. This year, with Dominic who plays Paddy, he is going to attempt suicide.”

Paddy's low moods have already been noticed by others in the village. Most recently, his dad Bear Wolf tried to take him on a blind date, hoping it would cheer him up.

Lisa said Mandy and Paddy still love each other but did not say if they would become a couple again. Mandy's focus for now will be to be there for Paddy and show her support.

Lisa said: “It's that whole thing when you are struggling and we, at ITV promote this, just keep talking. What you’ve got with Mandy and Paddy, you’ve got somebody who can be there for him through thick and thin all the time.

“Never judge him, never think anything’s right or wrong, advise him and just be there for him. But men don't want to talk and so we are working with Samaritans and Andy's Man Club and together they've advised us."

She added: "It is a slow burner because we want to tell the story properly. Just like for other people out there who would've had a friend like Mandy, who is going to be very worried."
