Emmanuel Sanders accepts responsibility for holding penalty: ‘I’ve got to do better’

Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders was penalized for holding and negated running back Royce Freeman’s touchdown run against the Packers in Week 4. Denver went on to settle for a field goal and eventually lost the game 27-16.

Many fans and pundits have criticized the penalty on Twitter, calling it an “absolute terrible call,” “ticky-tak” and “laughably bad.”

Sanders accepted responsibility when he spoke with media members Tuesday.

“I take accountability for my actions,” Sanders said. “Obviously, I’ve got to do better. In terms of that blocking, I was giving it my all. It just so happened that it was an inside run, I was blocking for the inside play and Royce ended up bouncing outside, which he was doing his job.

“I just kind tugged the guy a little bit, but it’s football, right?”

Sanders, 32, has caught 18 receptions for 194 yards and two touchdowns this season. He is set to become a free agent in 2020.
