British No 1 Jack Draper has been forced to withdraw from the US Open due to an arm injury.
Draper had been battling the injury ahead of the tournament and has decided that he is unable to play Zizou Bergs in their scheduled second-round match on Thursday. “I’m sorry to say I’ll be withdrawing from the US Open,” Draper said on social media. “I tried my very best to be here and give myself the every chance to play but the discomfort in my arm has become to much and I have to do what is right and look after myself. Thank you for all the support.”
Earlier, Emma Raducanu continued her US Open campaign with a merciless rout of Indonesian qualifier Janice Tjen, winning 6-2, 6-1 in the first match on Louis Armstrong Stadium today.
Tjen, who stunned 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova in her opener in New York, was in fact inspired to pursue tennis as a career by Raducanu’s phenomenal run to the title in 2021. But Raducanu gave her no quarter in her quickest-ever grand slam victory, taking exactly one hour to dispatch the 23-year-old to set up a clash with either ninth seed Elena Rybakina or another qualifier, Tereza Valentova.

GAME, SET AND MATCH! Novak Djokovic advances
19:18 , Harry Latham-CoyleThat’s that for Zachary Svajda - a bright start from the American as he threatened a serious shock, but Novak Djokovic’s class told thereafter as he wraps up a 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-3 6-1 victory.
Cameron Norrie or Francisco Comesana, who are out on court at the moment, await the 24-time grand slam champion.

Novak Djokovic closing in on third round
19:06 , Harry Latham-CoyleNovak Djokovic has taken the third set against Zachary Svajda, and is a break up in the fourth. The Serbian looks to be cruising into the third round after that early scare.

BREAKING: Jack Draper withdraws from US Open due to injury
18:53 , Harry Latham-Coyle“I’m sorry to say I’ll be withdrawing from the US Open,” Draper said on social media, confirming his withdrawal. “I tried my very best to be here and give myself the every chance to play but the discomfort in my arm has become to much and I have to do what is right and look after myself. BREAKING: Jack Draper withdraws from US Open due to injury
18:44 , Harry Latham-CoyleBritish No 1 Jack Draper has been forced to withdraw from the US Open due to injury.
Draper had been due to face Zizou Bergs in the second round at Flushing Meadows on Thursday, but the Belgian will advance via a walkover after his opponent’s withdrawal with an arm injury.
Hopes had been high that the 23-year-old left-hander could build on a breakthrough run to the semi-finals of the New York grand slam last year, having also won Indian Wells earlier in 2025.
But after beating Federico Agustin Gomez in four sets in the first round, Draper has decided that he is unable to continue to compete.

Novak Djokovic breaks back
18:35 , Harry Latham-CoyleDoor shut. Novak Djokovic instantly breaks back. As you were. He’ll have the ball in his hands at 2-3 on serve in the third with the match tied at a set each.
Novak Djokovic in a battle
18:32 , Harry Latham-CoyleZachary Svajda is clearly struggling with an injury or cramp or some kind, the trainer out in between sets to attend to him, but the unheralded American is really putting up a fight. He earns himself a break point in Novak Djokovic’s second service game of the third...and cracks the former World No 1 as Djokovic double faults.

GAME AND SECOND SET! Novak Djokovic squares affairs
18:20 , Harry Latham-CoyleMuch more like it from the 24-time grand slam champion: Novak Djokovic squares the match at a set apiece, taking the second 6-3 with typical comfort and calm to slow Zachary Svajda’s fast start.

Djokovic breaks
18:07 , Flo CliffordA tale as old as time and Svajda may be getting a sinking feeling... Djokovic has dropped the first set, but breaks as the American nets for a 4-2 lead in the second, and the Serb has lifted his game in this set so far.
On serve in second set
17:57 , Flo CliffordSvajda and Djokovic remain on serve in the second set, the Serb leading at 2-1, not looking particularly happy out there.
That first set on its own took an hour.
Svajda takes first set!
17:47 , Flo CliffordThe first - on Djokovic’s serve - is saved.
But it’s brilliant from the American on his own serve, digging deep in a physical rally, and fires down a superb backhand that Djokovic can’t keep in play!
Djokovic and Svajda into tiebreak
17:43 , Flo CliffordInto a tiebreak we go on Arthur Ashe. The young American doesn’t look fazed at all out here.
The pair exchange mini-breaks before Djokovic fires long to hand Svajda a set point at 4-6...
Djokovic recovers from 0-30 to hold
17:34 , Flo CliffordDjokovic, who doesn’t look quite his zippy, sprightliest best, recovers from 0-30 to hold serve for 5-5.
Svajda then duly holds to guarantee himself at least a tiebreak.
Emma Navarro meanwhile has wrapped up a 6-2, 6-1 win over fellow American Caty McNally, and Jiri Lehecka has levelled things against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, winning the second set emphatically: 6-0.
Djokovic and Svajda on serve
17:26 , Flo CliffordElsewhere, Novak Djokovic’s clash with American Zachary Svajda is on serve in the first set, at 4-5.
Emma Navarro leads Caty McNally 6-2, 4-1, while 20th seed Jiri Lehecka dropped the first set 3-6 to Tomas Martin Etcheverry but has recovered to lead 5-0 in the second.
Raducanu hits new heights
17:20 , Flo CliffordThat was officially Raducanu’s quickest grand slam win: 60 minutes exactly, two minutes quicker than her win over Ena Shibahara in round one.
She’ll face either ninth seed and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina or Czech qualifier Tereza Valentova.
Raducanu into the third round
17:15 , Flo CliffordEmma Raducanu speaks on-court: “I’m very pleased, second round after two days, it breaks the rhythm a little bit. Janice is a super dangerous opponent and I thought any ball that I put mid-court that wasn’t necessarily good enough she just put away.
She thanks the Louis Armstrong crowd, saying, “I loved it once again so thank you so much.”
Asked about Tjen previously talking about looking up to her, she says: “It puts a little pressure on but at the same time it’s a really nice feeling. She’s got through some top opponents, playing really well, I’m sure she can build and take a lot of confidence from this week.”
Asked what’s different about this season compared to last, she says: “The consistency of doing good practice days every day, building on that. After Miami I started doing some really good work, the last few weeks I’ve really stepped up on and off the court.”
She adds that she’s “really grateful” to those in her box. “I’m putting a lot of trust in the work I’m doing behind the scenes so it takes a little bit of pressure off,” adding that “I like to use it [the pressure] as much as I can.”

Raducanu wins
17:11 , Flo CliffordRaducanu and the Louis Armstrong crowd applaud Tjen as she walks off. The Indonesian has had a good run but simply didn’t have the answers today.
GAME, SET AND MATCH! Emma Raducanu 6-2, 6-1 Janice Tjen
17:10 , Flo CliffordAnd a brilliant, unreturnable serve seals it!
She beams and waves to the crowd. That was some match by the British No 1.
MATCH POINT! *Emma Raducanu 6-2, 5-1 Janice Tjen
17:09 , Flo CliffordTjen is playing with a lot more freedom now and is looking to dictate, lasering down another forehand.
But Raducanu plays a sweet strike in behind the Indonesian, who whips a return cross-court but then catches the reply awkwardly and it flies off her strings. 30-15.
Raducanu goes long for 30-30.
Tjen hits another cross-court return long and Raducanu has match point...
*Emma Raducanu 6-2, 5-1 Janice Tjen
17:06 , Flo CliffordRaducanu has won eight straight points in a row... that run comes to an end with an over-eager second serve return dropping long.
Tjen does better coming to the net, Raducanu skidding to make a backhand before her opponent slams down a smash.
A sweet winner down the line helps her onto the board in this set as she goes for a more attacking approach.
Emma Raducanu 6-2, 5-0 Janice Tjen*
17:02 , Flo CliffordRaducanu clearly has places to be. Another booming ace down the T is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Tjen however is cutting a more frustrated figure, with errors leaking from the forehand in particular. Some of that early confidence has dimmed.
Tjen clips the net cord and that’s a hold to love wrapped up by Raducanu. One game away from the third round.

BREAK! *Emma Raducanu 6-2, 4-0 Janice Tjen
16:59 , Flo CliffordRaducanu clips the line perfectly a couple of times in a row and an off-balance Tjen sends it flying out of play.
But one drops long for Raducanu... but there’s no let-up for Tjen as the Brit imposes herself in the next rally, pinning her further back until the Indonesian palms one into the net.
Another falls short for Tjen on the forehand side and Raducanu has the chance for a double break.
A vicious return from a fine wide serve and she takes it!

Emma Raducanu 6-2, 3-0 Janice Tjen*
16:55 , Flo CliffordAnother blistering first serve (Raducanu won 84% of her first serve points in that first set).
Tjen overcooks one of those topspin forehands and the British No 1 goes 40-0 up... better from Tjen as she forces Raducanu into the corner, and a cross-court forehand skews wide.
Raducanu knocks an angled volley into the net, not the best shot choice there.
And a roar from Raducanu as she withstands a barrage of slices, Tjen sending a forehand looping wide! Just as in the first set, she goes 3-0 and a break up.
BREAK! *Emma Raducanu 6-2, 2-0 Janice Tjen
16:51 , Flo CliffordQuick as a flash Raducanu rattles through another businesslike hold, and earns another chance to break Tjen.
An over-eager forehand drifts wide, but she has another chance at 30-40 up.
She goes for something slightly different, moving forward, and Tjen punishes her with a ball into acres of open space.
Quick break while Raducanu adjusts her sock...
Advantage Britain as she pins Tjen deep behind the baseline and the qualifier clips the net post, with the ball going against her.
Oh dear, a double fault gifts Raducanu the break.
Novak Djokovic in action
16:46 , Flo CliffordLet’s take a quick look around the other matches at Flushing Meadows...
Seventh seed Novak Djokovic has just walked out onto Arthur Ashe, where he faces American Zachary Svajda.
10th seed Emma Navarro leads compatriot Caty McNally 4-2, while three-time US Open finalist Victoria Azarenka is 0-3 down against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who was responsible for Sonay Kartal’s Wimbledon exit.
GAME AND FIRST SET! *Emma Raducanu 6-2 Janice Tjen
16:41 , Flo CliffordTjen is not letting her head drop but Raducanu has been pretty dominant from the baseline so far.
But moving forward has served Tjen well and she opts for that strategy again, with a fine forehand from the middle of the court.
Raducanu nods to her box as she plays a brilliantly constructed point, mixing in backhands slices with some punishing shots before whipping in the ball behind Tjen.
Another fine return and the Brit has two set points...
And a fabulous winner kissing the line secures it!

Emma Raducanu 5-2 Janice Tjen*
16:36 , Flo CliffordRaducanu redirects Tjen nicely, using the full width of the court.
Her serve has been firing fabulously so far and she wraps up a hold to love in double-quick time, Tjen swinging for a return but missing the ball entirely.
*Emma Raducanu 4-2 Janice Tjen
16:34 , Flo CliffordTjen frequently came out on top at the net against Veronika Kudermetova and she ventures forward again now, wisely leaving a high ball by Raducanu to drift long.
A backhand slice by the Brit also goes long, before Tjen hits the first double fault of the match.
But another vicious topspin forehand seals a comfortable hold for the Indonesian.

Emma Raducanu 4-1 Janice Tjen*
16:30 , Flo CliffordRaducanu targets the backhand wing and draws the error.
But she gets unlucky with a net cord in the longest rally of the match so far, as the ball clips the tape, seems to waver for a moment, before bouncing over on her side.
Tjen overcooks another couple of returns and it’s another stress-free hold for the British No 1.
*Emma Raducanu 3-1 Janice Tjen
16:27 , Flo CliffordAt every possible chance Tjen is running around the ball to get that heavy forehand into play. Raducanu gets her on the run and draws an error from that side, however, then dominates the next point to slam down a fine forehand into the open court for 0-30.
Tjen responds with a couple of strong serves and her first ace to move 40-30 up, and recovers well to get a hold on the board. She doesn’t look remotely daunted by the occasion at all.
Emma Raducanu 3-0 Janice Tjen*
16:23 , Flo CliffordA gutsy second serve out wide and Tjen has no reply.
And another fine serve gets her out of trouble entirely.
*Emma Raducanu 2-0 Janice Tjen
16:21 , Flo CliffordRaducanu fist pumps towards her box as she throws down another ace.
But Tjen is right in this one and another couple of strong forehands force Raducanu into errors, and the 23-year-old has a break point chance of her own at 15-40.
Tjen overcooks a return on a wide serve for 30-40, and the Brit defends well to force another error for deuce.
Great depth from Raducanu but Tjen moves forward effortlessly and draws her into the net. Another chance to break back...
“Come on!” shouts Raducanu as she forces Tjen out wide again and into the tape.

BREAK! *Emma Raducanu 2-0 Janice Tjen
16:16 , Flo CliffordRaducanu puts too much heft on a second serve return. Tjen is an opponent she’s unlikely to know very well, and at the moment it feels like both are just feeling their way into this game.
The Indonesian qualifier is yet to hit a first serve but has got a real heavy forehand.
Raducanu responds with some fierce striking of her own and lasers a fine forehand into the corner to earn an early break point.
And she takes it as Tjen nets!
Emma Raducanu 1-0 Janice Tjen*
16:12 , Flo CliffordAn unreturnable serve to follow... but Tjen, who has been likened to Ash Barty, shows what she’s made of with a swinging forehand.
Raducanu nets for 30-30, but a strong serve and an error on the forehand wing by Tjen seal the game.
*Emma Raducanu v Janice Tjen
16:09 , Flo CliffordThe Brit to serve first... and an ace is a solid way to start!
Who is Janice Tjen? Emma Raducanu’s next opponent carries red-hot form into US Open
16:06 , Flo CliffordEmma Raducanu’s incredible 2021 run to the US Open title helped inspire her next opponent to believe a career in the professional game was possible.
Watching from Pepperdine University in California was sociology student Janice Tjen, who on Sunday became the first Indonesian player for more than 20 years to win a grand slam singles match.
Tjen’s victory over 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova was one of the most surprisingly results of the tournament so far on paper, but a closer look at the 23-year-old’s trajectory makes it somewhat less shocking.

Emma Raducanu v Janice Tjen
16:03 , Flo CliffordThe players are out on a very sparsely-attended Louis Armstrong Stadium... seems that like at the French Open, 11am is the slot of death at Flushing Meadows.
It looks like a nice day, however: the sun is shining and temperatures have yet to hit the highs New York summer is infamous for.
US Open 2025: Men’s and Women’s seeds list and tracker
15:50 , Flo CliffordWhile the seeds at the US Open have largely avoided the carnage of the opening round of Wimbledon, there are still some big names to have fallen at the first hurdle in New York.
Australian Open champion Madison Keys is already out, with the American sixth seed stunned by Mexican player Renata Zarazua in a three-hour epic on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev is out too, losing to Benjamin Bonzi in the first round just as he did at last month’s Wimbledon.

Emma Raducanu reveals why rapid US Open win was ‘extra special’
15:40 , Flo CliffordEmma Raducanu claimed her first victory at the US Open since winning the title in 2021 as she breezed past qualifier Ena Shibahara in just 62 minutes.
After famously winning the US Open as an 18-year-old qualifier four years ago, Raducanu has twice crashed out in the opening round – losing to Alize Cornet in 2022 and Sofia Kenin in 2024.
But the 22-year-old said she is returning to the US Open in a better place, having enjoyed a consistent run on the court and showing some decent form ahead of the final grand slam of the year.

Jack Draper insists arm injury is ‘not a question mark’ at US Open
15:30 , Flo CliffordJack Draper insists he can still be a contender for the US Open despite concerns over an arm problem.
The world number five arrived in New York without having played a match for more than seven weeks after being diagnosed with bone bruising in his left humerus.
Draper admitted after battling to a four-set win over Federico Agustin Gomez in the first round on Monday that he had feared he would not make it, with the 23-year-old pushing the expected recovery time of eight weeks.

Which Brits are still in the US Open?
15:20 , Flo CliffordYesterday’s exodus means only four Brits remain in the draw in New York: Raducanu, Norrie, Fearnley, and Jack Draper.
Norrie plays Francisco Comesana at 11am local time today (4pm BST), with the Argentine world No 54 a dangerous opponent, having just knocked out 28th seed Alex Michelsen.
Fearnley and Draper have the day off before facing third seed Alexander Zverev - who has beaten the Scot twice already this year - and Zizou Bergs respectively.

Jacob Fearnley left ‘confused’ after being heckled by fan in US Open win
15:10 , Flo CliffordBut there was positive news for one Brit as Jacob Fearnley came out on top in his first-round clash with wily veteran Roberto Bautista Agut.
Fearnley overcame nerves and struggles on his serve to defeat the experienced Spaniard and record his first main draw win at the US Open, 7-5 6-2 5-7 6-4.
The 24-year-old was loudly backed by a member of the crowd behind the baseline, who then switched allegiances when Bautista Agut won the third set.
"When I Iost the service game at 5-4 in the third he completely turned – I couldn't believe it," explained Fearnley, who won in three hours and 24 minutes.
"I wanted to say something. He switched quick. It wasn't abuse, just confusing and extremely loud. He didn't say a nice thing after that."

Katie Boulter keen to solve serving problems following US Open exit
15:00 , Flo CliffordKatie Boulter vowed to address problems with her serve after her struggles continued with an opening-round loss at the US Open.
The former British number one will drop outside the world’s top 50 after a 6-4 6-4 defeat by 27th seed Marta Kostyuk.
Boulter has had a difficult season and admitted ahead of the match that she had begun to feel burnt out after heading straight from Wimbledon to the United States.
The 29-year-old is now in a much more positive place mentally but another eight double faults, often at important moments, contributed to the defeat, and Boulter is ready to go back to the drawing board.

Sonay Kartal and Katie Boulter exit US Open in first round
14:50 , Flo CliffordThere was an exodus of Brits yesterday as Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, Billy Harris and Francesca Jones all fell on day four.
Kartal was making her debut in the main draw in New York following her speedy rise up the rankings and was looking to write more grand slam headlines following a run to the fourth round of Wimbledon.
She beat Haddad Maia earlier this season in Indian Wells but, inspired by her noisy Brazilian fan club, the 18th seed overcame cramp to claim a 6-3 1-6 6-1 victory.
While Boulter, who has had a difficult season, will drop outside the world’s top 50 after also losing in the opening round.
She lost out 6-4 6-4 to 27th seed Marta Kostyuk in a fairly close contest, saving five match points on her own serve before her Ukrainian opponent came back from 0-40 down in her own service game to win.

The winner of Raducanu vs Tjen will play either ninth seed Elena Rybakina or Tereza Valentova in the third round.
Emma Raducanu v Janice Tjen
14:10 , Flo CliffordEmma Raducanu continues her US Open campaign against qualifier Janice Tjen as the British No 1 looks to back up her first win at the tournament in four years.
Raducanu said her 6-1 6-2 win over Ena Shibahara was “extra special” because of the long wait to record another victory at the US Open since her 2021 title. Raducanu required just 62 minutes to dismiss Shibahara and reach the second round.
Raducanu was expected to face the 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova in the second round but she will instead play the Indonesian qualifier Tjen, with the World No 147 winning 6-4 4-6 6-4 to claim her first ever win at a grand slam main draw.
Tjen has won a lot of matches on the ITF circuit this season and has modelled her throwback game - with a backhand slice and powerful forehand - on former World No 1 and Wimbledon champion Ash Barty.
Good afternoon
14:00 , Flo CliffordHello and welcome to day four of the US Open!
Emma Raducanu and Cam Norrie continue their campaigns today, alongside the likes of Novak Djokovic, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, and Carlos Alcaraz.
We’ll have all the action and build-up right here.
