Emma Bunton reveals on The One Show she'd 'love' the Spice Girls to perform at Glastonbury

Spice Girls star Emma Bunton has revealed she'd "love" for the girl group to perform at Glastonbury Festival. The 46-year-old singer, also known as Baby Spice, joined The One Show on Wednesday (September 28) to talk about her Christmas party tour this December.

Her appearance comes as the Spice Girls, who formed in 1994, announced earlier this week that they would be releasing a 25th anniversary edition of their 1997 album Spiceworld. During Emma's interview on BBC One's evening chat show, hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas were asking questions sent in by members of the public.

One viewer wrote in keen to know what the chances were of the Spice Girls performing at the iconic Somerset music festival. Emma replied: “I would love it, I mean I really hope so. I haven’t had that email from Glastonbury asking yet – but it would work.

"It would be amazing! I want to go to Glastonbury to have fun, so if I could perform there as well that would be very nice.”

Emma's not the only member of the group who has expressed an interest in taking to the stage at Glasto. Her bandmate Mel C told BBC Breakfast at the five-day music event earlier this year, that it would be “the dream” for them to play at Worthy Farm and that they “would love to do it”.

The 48-year-old singer, known as Sporty Spice, said: “The girls and I, we have chatted about it, it’s the biggest stage in the world, we have the best festival in the world right here.” Mel added how she had a “good feeling” that Victoria Beckham, also known as Posh Spice, would join them for the gig.

Whilst on The One Show, Emma also teased what Spice Girls fans could expect from the Spiceworld re-release: “It’s got some new stuff that you’ve not heard, live tracks. It’s got a track actually that the fans have been asking for for years, which is a track called Step To Me, which back in the day we did for Pepsi. So that’s on there and just lots of new stuff.”

Earlier in the show Emma also revealed she occasionally has friends over for Spice Girls sleepovers. Speaking to host Alex Jones, she said: “They try things on, I’ve got a mic that I love from a tour so they go around the house singing in the mic and holding the awards. I mean it’s really lovely, and we have to take pictures and video them and it is lovely.”

The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One an BBC iPlayer from 7pm. SpiceWorld 25 is due out on November 4.
