Kuwait and Iraq on Wednesday urged the need for wisdom and reason in dealing with the latest developments in the Gulf region.
Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah visited Iraq to discuss bilateral relations and the latest regional tensions. It was his first visit to the neighboring country in seven years.
He was received at the airport by President Barham Salih.
Relations between Iraq and Kuwait have made great strides forward, thanks to the wisdom and desire of the leaderships of the two countries to "overcome the remnants of the past," said Salih during summit talks with his guest.
He stressed that Iraq is keen on building advanced relations with its neighbors, particularly Kuwait, a presidential statement said.
Baghdad is looking at the nature of the current crisis in the region with a broad perspective to achieve a comprehensive regional consensus based on dialogue and good neighborliness among countries, he added.
He hoped that the Emir’s visit would be a good opportunity to start a constructive relationship between the two neighbors.
Six tankers have been hit in the past month in two attacks near the Strait of Hormuz, through which almost a fifth of the world’s oil passes, and Washington has accused Iran of being behind them, which Tehran denies.
