Emiliano Sala's sister sends touching message to tragic striker on his 29th birthday

The sister of tragic plane crash victim Emiliano Sala dedicated a touching message to him on what would have been his 29th birthday.

Former striker Sala, 28, died in a plane accident in January 2019 as he was en route to being unveiled as a Cardiff City player.

The striker died in the accident and his body was later pulled from the English Channel.

Sala would have turned 29 on Thursday, something his sister Romina Sala did not forget.

To honour her brother's memory, Romina Sala dedicated a heartwarming message to him.

The image shows a picture of her brother which she captioned: "There are no words that can describe the pain. Happy birthday brother! Where ever you are, give us the strength to go on.

"I wish everything were different… I promise you we will not stop until the end. Kisses to heaven."

Argentine club San Martin de Progreso, based in the Santa Fe Province, where Sala started his youth football career recently named their stadium the Emiliano Sala Stadium on the player's birthday.

The club's president Daniel Ribero said the idea to change the stadium's name came "after the body surfaced and the wake that was held in the club, the directive committee decided to name the main pitch where we play in the Esperancina League, Emiliano Sala."

The club also unveiled a mural dedicated to the footballer's memory and inaugurating a gantry.

The image shows the mural dedicated to Sala as he celebrates a goal during a Ligue 1 match.

Ribero explained the mural design which shows Sala celebrating one of his goals when he played in Ligue 1, was designed by Casilda Gabriel Griffa and was "an idea of one his friends that we loved".
