Emergency services called to fire at Nottingham Prison

Firefighters were called to a fire that started in a prison cell.

Three fire engines arrived in the Sherwood area after reports of a blaze coming from HMP Nottingham.

Firefighters from the Stockhill and Arnold fire stations attended the scene at 8.24am.

The fire was out within seconds. Firefighters were called as a precaution.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Fire crews left the scene at 8.46am after tackling the fire.

A Prison Service spokesperson said:

“The fire service were called as a precaution after a small fire set off smoke detectors. Staff extinguished it within seconds and no one was injured.”

No staff or prisoners were injured. One mattress was slightly damaged.
