Emergency services called to city street after car lands on roof

Ambulance and police were called to a Liverpool street after a car landed on its roof.

Footage shows the completely flipped Peugeot car and an ambulance at the scene of the crash on Townsend Avenue this morning.

Officials confirmed the male driver had a lucky escape and only suffered slight injuries in the crash at around 6.30am on Monday.

He has been taken to hospital.

The video, filmed by ECHO reader Paul Cogswell, emerged as an as an ice warning remains in place for Merseyside today.

Confirming the crash, a Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: " We were called at 6.30am by North West Ambulance Service to reports of a car on its roof on Townsend Avenue.

"The driver, a man in his 60s, was out of the car, a Peugeot, and had suffered only slight injuries."

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice after the region was blanketed by snow over the weekend.

Monday, January 25 is expected to be cold and frosty with wintry showers though it should turn drier overnight. The yellow weather warning remains in place until 11am.

The warning follows as Mossley Hill, Ainsdale, Widnes and Gateacre were among areas covered by a layer of snow on Saturday.

The colder conditions following Storm Christoph will remain until early next week, when conditions are due to become more unsettled once more

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 06:29 after a reports of a car on its roof. We’ve taken a man in his 60s to hospital."
