A woman and her dog who went missing in Dandenong North have been found safe, police say.

Cara Morrissey, 30, left her home on Somerset Drive for a walk on Tuesday at around 7:30am with her white Maltese poodle, Holly.

Victoria Police said she was found on Wednesday afternoon, after an extensive search by police and the State Emergency Service of Tirhatuan Park, next to the Dandenong Creek.

Senior Sergeant Chris Savage had said police were concerned about the weather conditions Ms Morrissey experienced while she was missing overnight.

Emergency service workers are searching Tirhatuan Park.

Ms Morrissey had left home with no personal belongings with her other than her dog, and family members flagged the disappearance as out of character.

"She is a regular walker, but she would usually return after an hour-and-a-half or so," Sergeant Savage said.
