Embrace Yoga To Stay Fit: Watch live interview with Vikram Singh, Director Morarji Desai National Yoga Institute

New Delhi: Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines that originated in India. It involves movement, meditation, and breathing techniques to promote spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical well-being. Today Yoga is practsced worldwide. 

Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) in New Delhi has been playing a leading role for years in making Yoga universally accessible and keeping people fit through various Yoga sessions organised by the Institute.

MDNIY is an autonomous Institute under the of AYUSH Ministry. 

Recently, Dynamite News, in an Exclusive Interviwe, talked to Vikram Singh, Director MDNIY, about various training sessions, courses,and other activities being run by Institute. Some excerpts:

Question: What is the purpose of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and what are its main functions?

Answer: Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga mainly performs three functions:
1. Being an Institute, Yoga courses are conducted by the Institute. 
2. BSc and MSc degree courses in Yoga are also offered. 
3. The Institute also promotes research work in yoga and its propagation.

Question: Today, Yoga is universally practised. Everyone wants to remain fit. International Yoga Day is also celebrated on the initiative of the Prime Minister. How can common people connect with Yoga and what is its process?

Answer: To ensure that the common man gets the benefits of yoga, we have opened our Institute for the public on all seven days. On Saturday and Sunday we offer free yoga sessions from 7 am to 9 pm where we conduct classes in Yogasana, Pranayama, Meditation etc. In these classes, people from all sections participate including bureaucracy, judiciary, politics and common people. The Institute also operates OPD from 8 am to 8 pm where a large number of people come for treatment.

Question: What type of courses are conducted by the Institute? What is the admission process and duration?

Answer: There are many short-term courses as well as long-term courses. In the short-term, our Foundation Course is the main course which is of 50-hour duration. If someone devotes one to two hours a day, this course can be completed in one-and-a half to two months.

Diploma Courses in Yoga
The second is our three-month course, also called Wellness Instructor. Besides, there is also a course of 6-months. There are also diploma courses. The minimum qualification for Diploma course is graduation.

BSc and MSc in Yoga
Our Institute is affiliated to IP University. Therefore, a three-year course for BSc and a two-year course for MSc in Yoga are also conducted here. Many special and other types of courses are also conducted by the Institute.
