Elton John will perform the remainder of his New Zealand and Australia tour dates, his tour promoters have announced.
The news comes after the “Rocket Man” singer cut short a show on Sunday 16 February when walking pneumonia caused him to lose his voice.
Walking pneumonia is the unofficial term for a milder type of pneumonia, for which the sufferer is not required to be hospitalised or stay in bed.
Fans had posted video online of John appearing to break down in tears as he was forced to abort the performance.
Chugg Entertainment, who are promoting John’s marathon Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour – the final tour of his career – said that the singer-songwriter was resting and doctors are confident he will recover.
“Elton John was disappointed and deeply upset at having to end his Auckland concert early last night,” a statement read.
Auckland’s concert on Tuesday 18 February has been postponed until Wednesday 19. John then has another Auckland show and seven Australian dates lined up before taking his tour to North America.
After John’s on-stage health troubles, he posted an apology on Instagram, saying:
“I played and sang my heart out, until my voice could sing no more. I'm disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave it all I had.”
