Elton John 'feels great' after he vowed to get healthy for the sake of his kids

Sir Elton John says he’s in his best shape for years after exercising in lockdown so he can be around to watch his kids grow up.

The 74-year-old singer puts it down to a new routine in which he walks in the swimming pool at his estate. He said: “In lockdown I’ve really gotten fit. I walk in the pool, I play tennis. I wanted to come out the other side not overweight and when I go back on tour I am going to be the fittest I have ever been.

“A lot of shame comes from the way I’ve put on weight. Its been with me all my life. I go up and down like a bloody yo-yo.

“I am Type B diabetic so I have to watch what I eat. I am probably the fittest I have been in a long, long time and I feel great.”

He told footballer Troy Deeney’s podcast he has walked 42 miles in his pool in Old Windsor, Berks, this year, adding: “There is no point moaning about being overweight.

"You have to do something about it and sit down with a doctor or nutritionist and say ‘How do I do it?” I have had a lot of help.

“It comes down to, what do you want for the rest of your life?

"I have two kids I want to see and be around as much as possible ‘so in that case Elton, get yourself together, do as you’re told’ and you will see the benefits of it”

Elton has Zachary, ten, and Elijah, eight, with husband David Furnish. He also spoke about his love of football and Watford FC – Troy’s team, which Elton owned in the 1970s and 80s.

He said: “Watford kept me sane and was one of the greatest highlights of my life. It is in your blood.”
