Elderly man had to undergo surgery after being attacked by dog in County Durham

An elderly man had to undergo surgery after being bitten by a dog in County Durham.

The incident occurred on Yoden Way in Peterlee at around 2.40pm on Tuesday (December 28).

Officers said they believe the dog, described as a lurcher, was with three men and another dog at the time of the incident.

As a result, the victim had to undergo surgery on his leg due to the nature of his injures.

Durham Constabulary is now appealing for information into the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police are appealing for information after an elderly man was bitten by a dog in Peterlee.

"It is believed the dog, described as a lurcher was with three men and another dog at the time of the incident.

"The victim was required to undergo surgery on his leg due to the nature of his injures.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Bartley on 101 then dial extension 202454."
