Elderly couple remain in critical condition following city centre crash

An elderly couple remain in critical condition following a crash on a busy city centre road.

A blue Nissan Almera came off Hotwell Road, injuring the man and woman, before hitting a traffic light just before 1pm on Sunday (April 7).

The pedestrians were taken to hospital via ambulance. The driver of the Nissan was also hospitalised but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Part of Hotwell Road, Rownham Mead and Merchants Road were closed for more than five hours while collision investigators examined the scene.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary confirmed on Tuesday (April 9) that the elderly couple remain in critical condition in hospital.

Police are also appealing for witnesses and any dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage following the collision.

A police spokesperson said: "We’re keen to hear from anyone who saw the manner of driving of a blue Nissan Almera leading up to the collision.
