Game developer Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI back in E3 2018 – more than seven years ago.
It’s been so long, in fact, that E3 doesn’t exist anymore, having been permanently closed down at the end of 2023.
While the gaming convention no longer runs every year, there are plenty of other gaming events that Bethesda could use as a platform to announce further news of The Elder Scrolls 6.
The Xbox Games Showcase came out in LA on June 8. Although it saw the reveal of the handheld Xbox console, some fans were hoping it would also feature new content about The Elder Scrolls VI.
Fans did get news about new content coming to The Elder Scrolls Online – but no further updates on the sixth game in the series.
When is Elder Scrolls 6 coming out?
With little more than confirmation that the game is in the works, there’s no way of knowing when we’ll finally be able to play The Elder Scrolls VI.
A post on X from the Game Awards reminded fans that the Elder Scrolls 6 is long overdue – and people aren’t happy.

“The practice of announcing things too early needs to end,” wrote on user on X.
“Starting to think that title was literally the only part of the game they had at that point,” wrote another.
It’s not the only game to be so drastically overdue, with the classic example being GTA VI.
With the predecessor, GTA V, coming out in 2013, Rockstar Games offered a first look in 2023, only to delay the game until 2026.
If it comes out next year, that will have been a 13-year wait for the next installment in the franchise.
A trailer was dropped earlier this year, which seems to be good news for the 2026 release schedule.
