Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham LIVE: Europa League match stream, latest goal updates as Solanke scores penalty

Tottenham face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League - (AFP via Getty Images)

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham LIVE!

It is do or die for Spurs this evening as they look to keep their season alive by reaching the Europa League semi-finals. A 1-1 draw back in north London last week, in which Spurs were guilty of a number of missed chances, leaves the tie finely poised ahead of tonight's second leg.

Ange Postecoglou has been addressing speculation over his future for seemingly weeks but tonight appears to be judgement day for his continued employment. Advance tonight, and he will be in charge for the semi-final. Defeat and he may not even be in charge for Nottingham Forest on Monday.

Still, plenty could happen between now and full-time tonight and Spurs will have to do it without captain Heung-min Son who has been sidelined with a foot injury. In better news, Dejan Kulusevski could make his first start in two months and Kevin Danso is fit. Follow the game LIVE below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park.

Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park

21:51 , Alex Young

The vibes are now jittery for Spurs, who have five defenders on the pitch and are clinging on to their lead.

After a largely mature display, if they are going to get over the line, it looks likely to be nervy.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:49 , Alex Young

85min: Danso replaces Johnson. Postecoglou is trying to shut up shop.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

Spurs could do with some changes, I think.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:41 , Alex Young

76min: Wahi and Knauff are on, replacing Larsson and Brown.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:40 , Alex Young

75min: Superb, point-blank save by Vicario as Ekitike is denied with a first-time effort and then Kristensen’s header in angled at the far post and it bounces the wrong side.

Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park

21:37 , Alex Young

This has been a really mature second-half performance from Spurs so far, who have restricted Frankfurt to brief glimpses of goal and looked a threat on the break.

Postecoglou still has 20 minutes to go and could do with making some subs but this feels like a night to change the narrative around him so far.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:36 , Alex Young

71min: Corner comes in, Frankfurt clear.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:34 , Alex Young

69min: Frankfurt want a penalty after Ekitike goes under pressure from Romero. The referee plays on but has now pulled the play back.

It doesn’t look like anything but VAR will take a look.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:32 , Alex Young

68min: Bentancur has an almost free header from the corner, but heads over. He’s furious with himself. Another big chance.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:31 , Alex Young

67min: Udogie drills a great low cross towards Johnson in the area, but Frankfurt clear.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:30 , Alex Young

66min: Corner comes in, Frankfurt clear the first but the second works to Tel who tries to bend a shot into the far corner but too much on it.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:29 , Alex Young

65min: More good work from Spurs on the counter which forces a corner. There will be space on the break for Spurs.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:25 , Alex Young

61min: Romero is inches away from nodding home a second!

The keeper was in no man’s land, and Romero heads the wrong side of the far post.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:17 , Alex Young

21:16 , Alex Young

51min: Chaibi fizzes a free kick from at least 30 yards narrowly past the post. Vicario was scrambling.

Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park

21:14 , Alex Young

This feels like a very big 10 minutes or so for Spurs, who have a tendency to concede goals shortly after half-time.

If they can weather an inevitable spell of Frankfurt pressure, we've seen enough over the two ties to suggest they can do some damage by raising the intensity in the final third of the match.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:14 , Alex Young

50min: Frankfurt win a corner off Johnson. It’s deafening again.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:13 , Alex Young

49min: Frankfurt look nervous too, some hesitancy or second-guessing from some of their players for the first time.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

21:11 , Alex Young

47min: Good interception from Bentancur to stop a Frankfurt attack, and he then wins a throw in.

Second half!

21:09 , Alex Young

46min: Back underway.

21:08 , Alex Young

Maddison’s injury is a big blow for Spurs but Kulusevski can hold the ball up better than most. You feel he’ll need to do that in the second half

Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park

21:03 , Alex Young

Spurs halfway towards a huge result, which would keep their season alive and restore some confidence in Postecoglou.

Solanke's penalty is the difference after Santos clattered Maddison. Spurs took a while to find their feet but were growing in threat before the goal.

Half-time!

20:53 , Alex Young

52min: There it is!

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

20:53

51min: Johnson is booked for a rash tackle on Brown, in the melee a Frankfurt coach has been sent off.

The half-time whistle needs to come.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

20:51 , Alex Young

50min: A nervous touch from Bergvall gifts Frankfurt a corner. Spurs again deal with the corner, Bentancur with the header and chance goes begging.

Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park

20:50 , Alex Young

A very cool penalty from Solanke who showed no nerves in front of Frankfurt's wall of ultras. It was a stonewall spot-kick and Santos was lucky to escape with just a yellow.

Spurs, who had grown into the game before the goal, have paid a price with Maddison unable to continue and Kulusevski on in his place.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

20:49 , Alex Young

48min: Kulusevski with a couple of excitable early touches, not doing his team-mates any favours.

20:48 , Alex Young

47min: Six minutes added on.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

20:47 , Alex Young

46min: Kulusevski is on for Maddison. Not sure how much added time will be played.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

20:47 , Alex Young

45min: Maddison has gone down again. He might need to come off.

Kulusevski is getting readied.

Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham (agg. 1-2)

20:46 , Alex Young

44min: Huge celebrations from the Spurs bench. Tensions are starting to raise on the pitch as Kristensen tries to drag Tel up from the pitch.

GOAL!

20:44 , Alex Young

43min: Tel wants it, Solanke takes it... and scores!

Advantage, Spurs!

PENALTY TO SPURS!

20:42 , Alex Young

41min: The referee gets called over to the monitor and gives the penalty!

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:42 , Alex Young

39min: VAR are checking. Surely it’s a foul, so it’s a penalty?

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:40 , Alex Young

38min: Oh no, big concern for Maddison who has been completely wiped out by the keeper.

It’s so, so clumsy from the keeper. Maddison looks in some pain.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:38 , Alex Young

37min: More good work by Tel to dink a cross into the box, but the keeper punches clear before Solanke can nod home.

Spurs are getting more confident.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:37 , Alex Young

35min: Bergvall’s delivery is met by Van de Ven at the near post, but he doesn’t get enough contact on it and the chance is cleared.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:36 , Alex Young

34min: Better from Spurs, who are now stringing some passes together as they push Frankfurt back for the first time this game.

Udogie wins a corner.

Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park

20:34 , Alex Young

Johnson and Tel both know how to score but they just cannot hold up the ball like Kulusevski or even Son.

So, Spurs are struggling to relieve the pressure when Frankfurt set up camp in their half, which feels problematic.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:33 , Alex Young

32min: Spurs are still struggling to string more than a few passes together. Everything is rushed or they are not sure what to do. Or both.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:31 , Alex Young

30min: A succession of corners from Frankfurt is piling the pressure on Spurs, but they manage to cope with three, four and then a fifth.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:27 , Alex Young

26min: Fantastic strike from Tel, from 25 yards, which Kaua Santos does brilliantly to push behind.

Porro takes the corner, and Frankfurt clear.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:26 , Alex Young

25min: Chaibi nods a decent header at Vicario’s near post. Easy save but Spurs shouldn’t be giving up chances like that.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:25 , Alex Young

24min: Frankfurt win a corner, despite Chaibi appearing to be offside in the build-up. Van de Ven clears the first cross and Porro clears the second.

Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park

20:23 , Alex Young

There's lots of space out there on Frankfurt's big pitch and both teams have had decent sights of goal already, suggesting this may not be the cagey affair predicted by Postecoglou.

As in the first leg, Spurs are having more of the ball but Frankfurt already look more dangerous on the break with home advantage.

(REUTERS)

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:21 , Alex Young

20min: First half-chance for Spurs as Johnson storms done the wing and cuts a ball back for Tel, who completely fluffs his shot. He had more time!

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:19 , Alex Young

17min: Chaibi replaces Gotze.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:19 , Alex Young

16min: What a tackle by Van de Ven to deny Ekitike, who looked certain to run through a score the opener.

The Spurs man closed a five yard gap to get a foot on the ball as Ekitike was pulling the trigger.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:17 , Alex Young

15min: Concern for Gotze now, who is clutching his hamstring and surely cannot continue.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:16 , Alex Young

14min: Spurs are done quite well so far to contain Frankfurt, but they are struggling to get a foot on the ball.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:12 , Alex Young

10min: Concern for Koch after a clash with Solanke. Medics rush on but he looks like he’ll be fine.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:11 , Alex Young

9min: Frankfurt certainly the team on top, though it is quite scrappy in the rain so far.

Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park

20:08 , Alex Young

I'm repeating myself but it really is loud here.

The Frankfurt ultras behind the goal are as coordinated as any away end I can remember, right down to the piercing whistles which punctuate the breaks in their chants.

Must be quite something to be pitch-level at that end of the ground.

(REUTERS)

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:06 , Alex Young

5min: Loads of pushing and shoving between Koch and Johnson so the corner is taken again, headed clear and then Gotze sends a shot straight back at Vicario.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:05 , Alex Young

4min: Johnson looses possession deep in his final third and then fouls the player to give away a free kick.

Delivery floated in, Romero heads behind.

20:05 , Alex Young

3min: Bahoya takes the ball down on the edge of the area, takes a poor touch and prods a first shot on the Spurs goal. Easy one for Vicario.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham

20:02 , Alex Young

2min: It’s raining in Frankfurt and the home crowd is deafening.

Kick-off!

20:01 , Alex Young

1min: Here we go!

19:57 , Alex Young

Here come the players!

19:51 , Alex Young

Both teams are back in their dressing rooms. Not long now.

Dan Kilpatrick at Deutsche Bank Park

19:46 , Alex Young

The atmosphere is already deafening here as the Frankfurt supporters, all dressed in black, bounce up and down behind the goal where their side are warming up, making the stadium shake.

Last week's first leg demonstrated that Spurs can outplay the Germans but it really does feel like their success tonight might hinge on how they cope with the noise and occasion.

Postecoglou: This is massive

19:23 , Alex Young

"Every game is tight. We felt we could have come away with a comfortable victory in the first game.

"We need to take that performance and we know it will be slightly different but overall, they will play the same way and so will we. Hopefully, it goes our way.

"It is massive. Don't take it for granted. A club like this hasn't been in many semi-finals."

Postecoglou explain Tel start to TNT Sports

19:22 , Alex Young

"He's familiar with German football. We thought it was a good option for him to start.

"We have Wilson [Odobert] and [Dejan] Kulusevski on the bench if we need it. To be able to throw someone like him on the pitch, it will be big for us.”

It’s an unchanged team from Frankfurt, who seemingly think they have enough about them to get the job done.

It’s just one change for Spurs, and an enforced one, as Tel comes in for the injured Son.

Kulusevski and Richarlison are on the bench.

Son injury is a blow to Tottenham in more ways than one

18:15 , Alex Young

In the days leading up to Tottenham's Europa League decider against Eintracht Frankfurt, Ange Postecoglou has reminded his players that they still have a chance to achieve “something special” and make it not just a successful season but an historic one.

The match is understandably being framed as a step towards Postecoglou saving his job and earning a third season at the club, but the Australian is determined to see it in a different light and has insisted that the result will not “define” him as a coach.

“If you don’t think I’m a good coach today, you won’t think I’m a good coach tomorrow, even if we win,” he said on the eve of the quarter-final second leg here in Frankfurt.

“I don’t think it is about salvaging [the season] and you know these opportunities don’t come round very often even if you’re having a good season, so why not take it? That has kind of been the message to the players.”

It is, though, hard to avoid the sense that for Postecoglou, the stakes are enormous, with his future at the club and possible legacy at Spurs resting on a positive result at Deutsche Bank Park.

Some of Postecoglou's excitement for the occasion has, however, been dimmed by the loss of his captain Heung-min Son, who has not recovered from a foot injury in time to feature.

Son has endured an underwhelming campaign by his own high standards, scoring just 11 times in all competitions, and prompting more than one impassioned defence from his manager, who has previously suggested that the Korean would be as impactful as Mohamed Salah in Liverpool's well-oiled team.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham prediction

18:05 , Alex Young

It felt like Tottenham needed to take a lead into the second leg, so last week’s 1-1 draw was certainly a missed opportunity and they are likely to rue a series of missed chances.

Frankfurt are very strong at home and their supporters are expected to create a hostile atmosphere - something this young Spurs have struggled with in Europe this season having lost away at Galatasaray and scraping a draw with Rangers in Glasgow.

There will be goals, with the hosts edging it.

Eintracht Frankfurt to win 3-2

Predicted XI

17:56 , Alex Young

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Bergvall, Maddison; Tel, Solanke, Kulusevski

Early Tottenham team news

17:50 , Alex Young

Ange Postecoglou's other tough call is at full-back, with Pedro Porro, Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence all jostling for two places.

Udogie and Porro were rested on Sunday, suggesting that they are in pole position to face Frankfurt, despite Spence's fine form.

Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall, all of whom were rested against Wolves, are expected to start.

Kevin Danso is available again after a hamstring injury and has travelled, but Radu Dragusin (knee) misses out, while Sergio Reguilon, Antonin Kinsky, Fraser Forster and Timo Werner are all ineligible.

Who starts in place of Son?

17:42 , Alex Young

Ange Postecoglou must decide who to start in Tottenham’s attack with Heung-min Son out of tonight’s massive clash.

Captain Son has not travelled to Germany due to a niggling foot problem in a major blow to Spurs' hopes of winning the last-eight decider following last week's 1-1 draw in north London.

Dejan Kulusevski is available after coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes of Sunday's 4-2 defeat at Wolves in the Premier League and could come in for the South Korean.

Odobert has made the trip despite sitting out the weekend's game at Molineux as Postecoglou manages the winger's minutes.

Mathys Tel is also a contender to start in Son's place from the left flank after playing there - and scoring - on Sunday. Brennan Johnson or Wilson Odobert could also switch to the left flank if Kulusevski comes in on the right.

Good evening and welcome to the London Standard’s LIVE coverage of the Europa League clash between Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham.
