Eight-year-old girl dies after taking unwell at home outside Glasgow

AN eight-year-old girl has died after taking unwell at a property in East Kilbride.

Police said emergency services were called on Saturday morning and the child was taken to hospital, where she tragically passed away.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained, and an investigation is underway.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.45 am on Saturday, 16 May, 2026, we received a report an eight-year-old girl had taken unwell at a property in East Kilbride.

"Emergency services attended and the child was taken to the hospital where she died. The death is being treated as unexplained, and enquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council said: “We are aware of the tragic passing of one of our pupils.

“We have been providing support to their classmates and staff as they deal with the tragedy.”
