Eight people rescued from fire at block of flats in Leeds

Eight people had a lucky escape after a fire broke out this afternoon (Sat) at a block of three flats on St Mary's Road, Potternewton, Leeds.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the people rescued themselves from the building and were not injured.

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, two hose reels and one large jet to extinguish the fire which broke out at 4.10pm.

Appliances from Moortown, Leeds, Kilingbeck and Hunslet attended, along with other specialist appliances and officers from across the county.

It is unclear what caused the fire which is being investigated by the service.
