Eight people rescued after seaplane lands on New York City East River

  • Eight people, including the pilot, were rescued after a Kodiak 100 seaplane made an emergency hard landing in New York City's East River on Sunday.
  • The seaplane tilted into the water shortly after noon, with conflicting reports from officials stating either one or two people sustained minor injuries.
  • The hard landing caused a wing strut to snap, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the incident.
  • A New York Police Department helicopter alerted authorities to the scene, with the pilot declaring, “Mayday, mayday, mayday. Plane down in the water.”
  • A witness praised the pilot's skill, comparing him to 'Sully' Sullenberger, who famously landed a plane in the Hudson River in 2009.
