Egypt’s Health Ministry has urged citizens to abide by the preventative precautions to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, amid a continuous decline in infections.

The ministry on Friday confirmed 41 new cases, bringing the country’s total up to 283,947.

The total tally of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 16,477 nationwide after the ministry announced seven more, while 533 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising the total of fully recovered cases to 227,068.

The health authorities urged citizens to continue to abide by the preventative precautions including wearing facemasks, maintaining social distancing, washing hands regularly and abstaining from attending crowded places.

Head of the Central Department of Preventive Affairs at the ministry Mohamed Abdel Fatah said on Saturday that the crisis management room in the Egyptian Ministry of Health and the Egyptian cabinet are ready for any new waves of the pandemic.

According to Akhbar Alyawm, he said that it cannot be predicted when a new wave would hit. As long as citizens strictly comply with the restrictive measures then the pandemic can be curbed, and a new wave can be averted.

He did, however, express concern over the family gatherings during the recent Eid al-Adha holiday, which may lead to a spike in cases.
