Egypt’s Ministry of Education announced a new precautionary plan to combat the coronavirus, two weeks before the beginning of the school year, including measures and guidelines to be followed in educational institutions.
School year in Egypt's governmental schools will officially begin on October 17, while international schools welcomed students weeks ago. Some schools temporarily suspended education after the emergence of COVID-19 cases among their staff and students.
The ministry announced that the new measures will apply to governmental, private and international schools.
The new measures include closing a class for 28 days if more than one student tests positive for the virus in a period of two weeks. Also, the school will be closed for the same period in case two or more classes were closed due to the spread of Covid-19.
Schools will close in any village or city that goes under isolation under government orders until the isolation period is over.
The measures also explain that a school may be closed in a governorate for at least 28 days, based on recommendations by the crisis management committee and the development of the epidemiological situation.
Egypt reported 109 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total cases in the country since the outbreak to 103,575, announced the Ministry of Health.
The ministry indicated that 14 patients died from the coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 5,970, while 131 completely recovered, raising the total recoveries to 97,274.
