On a gloriously sunny Saturday on the Easter weekend, the Kirk of Calder held an Easter Fair that raised over £1,100 for the church.
With stalls galore, the CR Stompers jazz band playing live, and bright blues skies above, the event in the church grounds was well attended by the community.
The children from the church’s Sunday Club also played a key role as they helped man the stalls, and their beaming smiles tempted many to the tombola. Its success owed much to the meticulous planning and organisation of church officer, Eleanor Blair. However,
The following day, Easter Sunday, the Sunday Club children were up early to roll eggs down Cunnigar Hill.
Before and after the egg-rolling the children and their parents sang some songs led by teenagers Abi Neil and Heidi Haddow. The morning ended with an Easter breakfast, back at the church’s Glenalmond Hall, that had been laid on by church elder, Jacqui Campbell.
She said: “It was lovely to see the smiling faces of the children after the egg-roll, especially their pleasure in simple things.
"I was also pleased to see the tradition of egg-rolling at Cunnigar Hill kept alive as well as a reminder of the egg- roll’s roots in resurrection, faith and hope.
Malcolm, Sienna, Amelia, Murray, Sayo, Grace, Heidi and Abi more than earned their breakfast and rounded off a wonderful morning by singing a song about a chicken.
“We would love to see more children, aged four to 11, in our Sunday Club. It is free and runs every Sunday from 10.30am to 11.30am in our Glenalmond Hall. Stories, games, singing and dancing guaranteed! Just PM the Kirk of Calder Facebook Page.”
