Edu moves for 'next Kai Havertz' to complete Mikel Arteta's dream Arsenal attacking quartet

Martin Odegaard shot to early-career stardom after signing for Real Madrid following a hefty pursuit from Liverpool and Manchester United for the promising Norweigian.

He opted for Los Blancos at the tender age of 16, but failed to cement his place in the 10-time Champions League-winning squad.

His loan move to Arsenal which became permanent in the summer, just gone, saw him become on the final signings during Mikel Arteta's glut of arrivals at the Emirates Stadium.

Recent reports surrounding highly-rated Bundesliga youngster Florian Wirtz suggest that German giants Bayern Munich lead the race for the 18-year-old.

Whilst the euphoria of the European Championships gripped football fans across the world, others were also keeping a keen eye on the U21 European Championships where the youngster was firing Germany past their opponents as he shot his country to glory as they beat Portugal in the final thanks to Lukas Nemecha's winner.

Those heroics and his club performances landed him a debut for the Germany national team during the last international break after managing a call-up under Joachim Lowe but failing to feature in their three qualifiers.

Kai Havertz paved the way for Wirtz as he sparked for Bayer Leverkusen before his big-money move to the Premier League to Arsenal's London rivals Chelsea.

But it was the aforementioned 18-year-old who snatched the record of youngest Leverkusen goalscorer from the Blues-man during a 4-2 defeat to Bayern Munich when he was aged 17 years and 34 days, no better feat than to score your maiden professional goal against one of the titans of world football and firing beyond Manuel Neuer.

The records continue to topple for the youngsters, becoming the first 17-year-old to score five Bundesliga goals then breaking Timo Werner's record this month becoming the youngest player to net seven goals.

Arsenal are a team in a long list of clubs eyeing a move for the playmaker, as well as the Bavarians, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Thomas Tuchel's side are all monitoring his situation, with Wirtz admitting he "doesn't want to go to the Premier League so quickly."

Recent performances and a standout tournament for Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka, respectively, has brought Arsenal fans to the edge of their seat now with an appetite to see the latest crop of Hale End's finest breakthrough into the first team under the stewardship of Mikel Arteta.

The guard seems to be changing under the Spaniard allowing for the likes of Smith Rowe, Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, to name a few, to flourish in the first team as they strike the balance with the pieces to Arteta's puzzle slowly falling into place as he implements his style of play with tints of serial cup-winning manager Pep Guardiola, a head coach the current Arsenal boss spent time under as a number two.

Comparatively, with Odegaard, who is a direct, trouble-causing attacking midfielder, the Leverkusen-man follows a similar model with the confidence and flair to change the game in an instant with the capability and eye for the killer, incisive pass, quickly becoming one of the most sought-after talents.

For Wirtz, Arsenal and London Colney could be the place to see him adapt the already scintillating vigour that has seen him smash records domestically and breakthrough under new Mannschaft head coach Hansi Flick becoming the latest addition to a youthful and talented attack which in turn could spark the most exciting and talented attacks in football.
